Fist Of Fury (1972)

One of Bruce’s 5 main movies, and also known as The Chinese Connection… Fist Of Fury was Bruce’s third-from-last completed movie, premiering on 22 March 1972 at the Queen’s Theatre in Hong Kong, just 16 months before Bruce was murdered.

Not to be confused with The Big Boss (1971) which was originally planned to be called Fists of Fury.

In this movie, Fist Of Fury (1972), Bruce was near enough in his prime, however, he was not yet given much control over the script, so there’s not so much to learn from this movie compared to those that followed it. But it’s still a great performance – one that earnt Bruce the right to write & direct his next movie: Way Of The Dragon, released later in 1972.

Bruce still had plenty of influence over the fight scenes though. We see plenty of his trademark movements and noises – there’s much to be learned from a technical perspective, regarding execution of martial arts techniques – even though there’s a large element of stage showmanship, you may be able to read between the lines and take this movie as a valuable study aid for analysing “Bruce’s form”.

The movie is not bad for entertainment either, even though the English dubbing is pretty bad. Plenty of action, plenty of energy, and a mildly entertaining storyline – even some romance between Bruce’s character and the character played by Nora Miao who appears in most of Bruce’s major movies – in real life they were good friends (and maybe more).
